Test for Asbestos in the Air
Asbestos is a material that is used in the manufacturing of construction materials. The character of asbestos is a silicate with a fiber. When it comes to the materials made using asbestos will include tiles, cement siding, ceiling tiles, insulation. The banning of asbestos has been done in very many countries due to its effects to the environment and human beings. When it is in the building’s material, asbestos is said to be safe. The damage on the material, however, makes it to be exposed to the air around it. It is illegal to expose the asbestos to the air since it can lead to serious hazards on peoples’ health. There are very many possibilities that can lead to the exposure of the asbestos from the building material to the air. The asbestos fibres are the ones that are known get into the air which can result to people breathing them in their lungs. Diseases that can result from breathing in the asbestos fibers in the lungs are many.
Due to this there is need to conduct a test to determine whether there is asbestos in the air. There is need to ensure that there is a test that is done of one’s building to ensure no asbestos is in the air to ensure this. Ensure the safety of every one is the main reason for this. When it comes to doing the tests, they are mainly done in an area where there is a likelihood of asbestos exposure. It can be as a result of damaged building material. The benefit of doing this is to ensure that the material is replaced and the repair is done where necessary.
During the air test to determine the presence of asbestos it is necessary to note there are two types of air tests. The two types of air tests will include transmission electron microscopy and the phase contrast microscopy. Reliabilty is a gurantee in all the tests. However, the best test is the transmission electron microscopy. The main reason for this is because it is able to detect great sizes of fibres hence making very accurate. When it comes to the PCM test, it is done by getting a sample of air which is sucked through a filter. A part of the filter is observed a microscope when the air sample has been achieved. One of the benefit of this method is it is very cheap and affordable. Getting the results in this method is very easy.
Using the electrons of a light microscope is what the TEM test consists of. An air sample is collected from the suspected area. With the help of the electrons one will easily determine the asbestos particles in the air. The time taken to determine the asbestos particles is longer even though it is quite affordable.
